WHOPPER DOWNGRADE

Our rivalry with the clown is part of what makes people love our brand. But one rivalry created an image problem: Big Mac or Whopper? A six-decade-old comparison. The truth is, the Whopper is much better. Flame-grilled, chemical-free, made with fresh ingredients, and almost 30% bigger in size and weight. It’s not a fair comparison. And it overshadowed our biggest icon. Until we made the fight fair.

We released a statement: to make the comparison fair for the clown, we released a Whopper with the exact same size and weight as the Big Mac. People went crazy online and in selected stores where the Small Whopper was released.

People did not love a Big Mac-sized Whopper. Quite the opposite. They claimed for us to bring back the original. And that’s exactly what we did. To make it up to everyone who got upset about the Whopper getting small, we brought the original size back with a special discount. And next time, if the clown wants a fair fight, he can make his burger bigger.
